Artist's Description

Ile Guam Usages Des Anciens. From our extensive collection of Antique Maps, Prints and Photos of Guam and Micronesia; from the Folio Collection of prints from the Frycinet voyage by A. Pellion. This archival reproduction of the original 1819 was the official artist on board. This archival reproduction of the original circa 1835 print in our collection. Beautiful hand-colored rendering of the original print showing the social classes in traditional Chamorro society which was divided into matrilineal clans and classes. Here a Matao, high class, is shown respect from the lower class, Manachang bowing before him. Plate 62 in the folio collection. (NOTE: Since this is high resolution reproduction of the original antique print from 1835, there are some small natural areas of coloration in the print, which are typical of a 200 year old print and areto be expected.)
