Artist's Description

A View near the town of Pelew the Capital of the Pelew Islands representing the Causeway or Landing Place.
(NOTE: Since this is high resolution reproduction of the original antique print from 1819, there are some small natural areas of coloration in the print, which are typical of a 200 year old print.) When matted and framed this is an exquisite print for home or office.

From Baldwyns Geography depicting a plate from Keats book describing the shipwreck of Captain Wilsons on Palau.

Palau's first European contact took place in 1783 by the British Ship Antelope, commanded by the English captain Henry Wilson. Antelope was ship wrecked on a reef near Ulong, a rock island between Koror and Peleliu. Wilson and his crew stayed in Palau for six months to rebuild his ship with the assistance of Koror's high chief Ibedul.
